Teresa Steven's use of strong colour and abstract imagery creates a contemporary interpretation of the vast, energetic and vibrant landscape surrounding Fregon Community. The bold use of colour is influenced by the intense red of the desert country creang a narrave based in the landscape.

Desert country near Fregon is a vibrant landscape with long ridges of low sandhills interspersed by flat spinifex and vast, grassy plains. These in turn are criss-crossed by dry creeks lined with river red gum eucalypts creating a patchwork effect and which flood during heavy rain.

Teresa has been painting and living in Nyapari with Tjungu Palya for many years. She has recently returned to her birthplace of Fregon and is connuing her painng with Kaltjiti Arts. Teresa's father is Keith Stevens and her mother Tjanpuwa Stevens, both established artists.
