205-24KA, Ingrid Treacle, "Ngayuku Ngura", 152x75, acrylic on Belgian linen
This is Fregon country on the *APY Lands. Ingrid's bold use of colour is influenced by the vivid colours of the desert country and she depicts a contemporary, abstract interpretation of the landscape. Intense green colours emerge after the spring rains. Fregon Country is a vibrant landscape with long ridges of low sandhills interspersed by vast, flat plains of spinifex and native grasses. These in turn are criss-crossed by dry creeks lined with river red gum eucalypts creating a patchwork effect and which flood during heavy rain. Rockholes are irregular, circular shaped depressions in the rocks which fill with water when it rains. Knowledge of their location was essential to survival in nomadic times. The third of five sisters, Ingrid was born in Fregon, her father's country, on the APY Lands*. 2016 current: A member and chairperson of the Kaltjiti Art Centre Board, Ingrid assists with the management of the art centre in addition to being an artist. Ingrid is married and has a son
