Myra Kumantjara is painting her grandmother’s country, Kalpi, near Mimili on the APY Lands. Kalpi is an important women's place, full of rockholes where water collects after the rains. These rockholes are a vital source of water during the dry season. Knowledge of rockhole sites is passed down from generation to generation and is revered by all Anangu.

Myra Kumantjara is an emerging artist based in Umoona Community, Coober Pedy, in the north of South Australia. She began painting with Umoona Art Centre in mid-2021 and has quickly demonstrated a deep talent and confidence in her bold works. In addition to her individual pieces, Myra has also collaborated with her mother, Jeannie Minunga, and her aunt, Kay Finn, on large-scale paintings.
