28-24PA, Port Augusta Arts Collective, Acrylic on Belgian Linen, 146 x 122cm

Betty was born in 1957 and is from the Mimili Community, though she now lives in Port Augusta. She paints the waterholes near Mimili, where she grew up, and has always understood the importance of water for survival. Betty knows how to find the rockholes and takes great care in preserving them. She regularly visits these rockholes and often brings her grandchildren along. Her paintings reflect the journey across her land—through rocks and hills—to find the waterholes.
