180-24KA, Fiona Pompey, "Sand Dune Country", acrylic on Belgian linen, 192x192cm.
Born in Fregon, located on the APY Lands of South Australia, Fiona Pompey details the sweeping, undulating sand-hills of the surrounding desert country.
Her paintngs draw influence from her late Mother, Kunmanara (Tali Tali) Pompey, who is well known for her powerful desert paintngs. Fiona captures the expansive, almost hypnotic repetition of the sandhill landscape through her careful choice of semi-toned colours and layering. The small, rounded shapes reflect the habitat of shrubs, trees and bushes. These grow on the sides and at the base of the sand-hill where the water collects. They provide a valuable source of many food bearing grasses and shrubs. Fiona currently lives in Fregon and paints in the studio at Kaltjiti Arts.
