Nurina was born at Ernabella Mission and grew up there. She later married and moved with her husband to Tjala Community, where she has remained, along with several of her children and their children. Nurina has painted with both Tjala Arts and Ernabella Arts and has recently started working at the APY Studio in Adelaide.
Nurina paints her Country, her father’s mother’s secret and sacred site, where Ngapari (sweet lerps) can be found in summer on eucalypt leaves. Nurina describes this as "Sweet Dreaming," something like honey.
She has served as a director of Tjala, a member of the Amata Council, and works with NPY Women’s Council.
The APY Art Centre Collective is a social enterprise made up of South Australian Aboriginal-owned and governed arts and culture organisations. As a collective, these organisations work to increase income for Aboriginal artists and support the important work of art centres in communities. This artwork was created at the APY Art Centre Collective-operated Adelaide Art Centre, which provides artists living ‘off country’ with a professional studio environment, the ability to generate independent income, and culturally appropriate support to access healthcare. It also offers the opportunity to maintain vital cultural and community connections when in Adelaide.
